Three Words For You…Treat Yo Self.

Everyone likes a treat. I used treats as rewards for getting to the next milestone. Something to look forward to when quite frankly I wasn’t feeling the benefits of not drinking, initially.

I’d had my eye on this ring by Swarovski for a while, but didn’t feel like I could justify buying it for myself…I mean it wasn’t my birthday or anything. The thing is, I’d just completed my first month of not drinking. 1 month, I don’t think I’d ever lasted longer than a week before that, so this was a milestone. I also did the math and technically I had over £100 in the bank that I would have spent on alcohol if I wasn’t doing the challenge. I figured that the ring would remind me that I’d got through the hardest month and that it was always there watching over me, protecting me.

Through posting this picture I have just realised that my face and my hand are completely different colours. Winter makeup fail. Pass me the St.Tropez!

The third eye symbol seemed pretty apt. For those who do not know, the third eye refers to the gate that leads to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye often symbolizes a state of enlightenment or the evocation of mental images having deeply personal spiritual or psychological significance. SOLD. Enlightenment sounded like just what I needed and I deserved a treat.

In the words of Parks and Recreation ‘Treat Yo Self’.  How would you Treat Yo’ Self if you had a bit more cash to spend/save?

It can be the ‘best day of the year’, once a month, if you save the money you would have spent on alcohol up each month.  Here’s some ideas, based on what I did for myself last year and will continue to do so, because after all I am worth it.

  • Shopping trip with the girls

  • Little weekend away, exploring somewhere different

  • Tasting menu somewhere posh (you’ll also be able to taste the food more after a break from the booze)

  • A pamper session at the spa

  • An electric bike - my bike has been my best investment so far, it brings me SO much joy

  • Candles and nice bits for the house

  • Bath oils - I love a bit of Jo Malone for a treat - smell amazing and feel fabulous

  • Get your hair or make up done (warning get ready for lots of compliments)

  • Go to the cinema or theatre - open your mind

  • Buy a book and spend time reading it

  • Join a yoga class - shake it off

  • Treat a friend to a coffee or lunch - random acts of kindness to others, also can make you feel good!

  • Coaching / healing - do some deep soul searching. Really get to know yourself and what makes you tick - this came later down the line for me, but something that has been important for my continuous growth and development.

The point is, there are so many ways to treat yourself and it will be different for everyone. Take some time to think about what you love, what brings you joy and makes you happy… and if the only thing that you can think of as a reward is a glass of something alcoholic, then it might be time to take a break and to see that there is so much more out there to enjoy and to discover.
