Double Celebrations
Today marks not only Mother’s day, but 90 days *3 months* sober for both myself and my mum! Whoop Whoop!
I can not tell you how overwhelmed with pride I am today. For my mum to take on the challenge at the start of the year meant so very much to me. To celebrate, we spent the day at the Zoo hanging with the animals. My mum used to be a volunteer tour guide there so she was the perfect companion, educating me, whilst naming each and every animal that we can came across. Sunday satisfaction - tick!
The last few weeks have involved ups and downs. I have been meaning to update the blog, but it has been so busy that I haven’t found a moment to do so. I want to note a charity night out at the Mayfair hotel (random I know) raising money for Jersey Cheshire Home , with some of my favourite girls last Friday evening. The night was a 70’s Motown themed evening and for £15 you got your dinner and a dance. We didn’t know what to expect and we had an absolute ball. The crowd were so inviting, throwing each other around the room and encouraging each other up on to the dance floor to have fun - not an ego in site. So refreshing, just good, old fashioned fun! I announced to our table that I was ‘feeling lucky’, which I was, only to be one of the winners of the raffle!! Bagging myself £50 CoOp vouchers.

The face says it all
A couple of the girls joined me sober for the evening too, swapping their beer for an alcohol free one… we all still managed to dance until our feet stopped working and our mouths hurt from smiling. True, pure, joy is infectious you know - a REAL buzz, with REAL people! I know it’s cliche and cheesy but your vibe really does attract your tribe. We’ve made a pact to look for more evenings like this, because there is a reason that it’s called soulful music because it really does leave your soul FULL.
Saturday morning, I woke up fresh and ready for a day at the Hotel de France spa with some more girlfriends. It’s so nice to spend quality time with people, when you are all on the same level. I had the hot stone massage, which was amazing, followed by afternoon tea. I floated home ready to baby sit our gorgeous nephews for the evening (they really are gorgeous, good as gold and great entertainment!). So, that all sounds high right? Here comes the low….Sunday I woke up feeling like I’d been hit by a bus…and then that bus had rolled backwards and forwards over me a few times - just for good measure. Apparently I must have had an underlying cold before I went for my massage, which had then been bought to the surface. I’d gone from feeling like HERO to ZERO in one evening. When you don’t drink any more and don’t get hangovers, you forget what it’s like to feel floored like that. I couldn’t move all day, I had a rumbly chest and a snotty nose and was just hoping that I wasn’t going to end up like I did at the start of the year! I took a day to shake off the cold which was the best thing that I could have done. I’d recovered in time for important meetings planned for the end of the week, which was the main thing. Would this have been the case if my immune system had been weaker, through regular boozing?
I finished the week, full of love for my amazing team at BWI who pulled together to deliver a fantastic event for Leadership Jersey. I will do another post around some of the inspiring people that we have met through helping with these events, or you will be here all night reading this post!
Thank you to everyone who has helped me get this far. 1 quarter down and I have raised about £1,960 (it’s not all going through my justgiving page). Bring on the next quarter.
