Funny AF Night Out
Last night we treated ourselves to a night of belly laughs with comedian Jason Manford, at the Freezing cold Fort Regent. We booked the evening at the end of last year as my January treat to celebrate reaching the first milestone of the challenge – 1 month sober whoop whoop 🙌
Before the event, friends and I went for dinner at The Square; where we enjoyed a tasty dinner and a round of soft drinks. I don’t have a problem at all with people drinking around me (it’s my choice to do this challenge), but it was a nice gesture that the table chose to enjoy a sober evening with me.
We had a good giggle before the comedy even started, with both boys turning up for dinner in nearly identical outfits. They then both blended into the checkered chairs when we got to the fort. Ha - Maybe you had to be there…
I loved how Jason willed the audience to leave their problems outside, encouraging us to laugh out loud and to have fun (making sure that we knew that all laughs would be accepted, including my special snort laugh - which made me feel very welcome and comfortable!)
I really do believe that laughter is the best medicine, leaving you feeling instantly relaxed. Much more relaxing than a large glass of Malbec (minus the grogginess and bad night’s sleep afterwards).
One of the things that I took away from the evening was the notion that we have two sides to our brain; the idealised version (that we aspire to be) and the real version (which leads to guilt as we cannot live up to our aspirations.) It made me think about how I want to be the best version of me that I can be, for myself and for the people around me. There will always be a constant battle of left vs right brain, so it is important to keep reminding myself of why I am doing what I do and to not let my ‘real version’ and habitual behaviour get the better of me.
The other thing that I will find it hard to forget this is not related to being AF, but I had to share is the fact that Disney seems to be obsessed with killing off parents in their films. I LOVE a Disney film and have never thought about it before, but now I don’t think I will ever watch their films in the same way again. Can you guess which films are on the list? I’ll start you off…Bambi - Mum shot in the face, Lion King - Dad trampled to death…the list goes on and on and on! Full list can be found here >>
